Synopsis Healthcare is delighted to announce it has been nominated for an award at this year’s NHS in the North Excellence in Supply Awards. Synopsis has been recognised in the Innovation Award category, following a project with Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The award recognises the work of businesses and the NHS in working together to provide great patient care, and will take place on the evening of Thursday 17 October at The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.
Innovation Award – Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Project
Synopsis has been nominated for the Innovation Award following a 2018 project to transform the traditional, resource intensive system at Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, alongside project leaders, Intouch with Health.
Aintree Trust provides general acute health care to 330,000 residents in North Merseyside and surrounding areas. Aintree is a teaching hospital of the University of Liverpool and a tertiary centre providing specialist services to around 1.5m residents in Merseyside, Cheshire, South Lancashire, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
Leading the project, Intouch with Health brought in Synopsis to provide the highly specialist pre-operative platform, which digitises the pre-operation patient journey.
Digitising Pre-operative Assessments to Improve the Flow to Theatre
Aintree University Hospital perform around 21,000 pre-operative assessments a year and have a pathway recognised as LEAN, applying best practice and accepting walk in as well as booked patients. Working with Synopsis and introducing the Synopsis iQ digital pre-operative assessment system removed a reliance on paper, reduced costs and introduced a level of consistency and risk management not previously possible.
Since December 2018, an average 900+ patients a month, including all assessed for a general anaesthetic procedure at the Trust, now have their assessment on the digital system.
The impacts of the initiative so far include:
- automatic risk assessments and ASA grading saves time, remove individual variance improving quality, consistency and reducing avoidable harm,
- assessment records are immediate available compared with a 2-7 day delay in scanning,
- eliminated the variance and difficulties of understanding scanned handwriting,
- reports listing patients ready for surgery assisting the Surgical teams in Theatre list planning
- patient feedback on questionnaire 93% positive
