Following an assessment by the judging panel, Synopsis has been judged as ‘highly commended’ and shortlisted at the NHS in the Midlands Excellence in Supply Awards 2021. Synopsis has been nominated in the ‘Patient Experience Award’ category following the deployment of the Synopsis Platform across Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Trust, which conducts pre-operative assessments for around 11,000 patients per year, has used Synopsis iQ and Synopsis Home to help facilitate the ‘restart’ of elective surgeries.

Following the go-live of the Synopsis Platform, Synopsis has supported the Trust to reduce pre-operative assessment activity time by 51%. Synopsis has also reduced the lag time between patients being referred for a pre-op appointment and completing their triage questionnaire from weeks to days (on average just 3 days) – this has resulted in patients joining the pre-operative pathway sooner.

Rachel Foley, Clinical Benefits and Change Lead at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We rapidly rolled out Synopsis iQ and Synopsis Home early in the pandemic which was successful despite severe pressure due to changes in pre-op activity and staff redeployment caused by the pandemic.

“Earlier pre-operative assessment interventions are allowing us to identify patients at high risk of being unfit for their operation and intervene sooner to ensure they stand the very best chance of their surgery going ahead. Our elective surgery patients can now complete their health history questionnaire from the comfort of their own home, then submit the answers in real-time to our clinical teams.

Synopsis has led to a more streamlined and efficient process, allowing patients to have their POA recorded in one place, which is visible to all applicable staff, Trust-wide and enables our team to utilise our department and facilities more efficiently, thus improving patient experience as putting patients first is at the heart of everything we do.”

Following the postponement of the 2020 awards, NHS in the Midlands Excellence in Supply Awards will be returning in 2021. The awards evening will take place on Thursday 7 October 2021 at the Forest of Arden Hotel.

More on Synopsis

Synopsis supports hospitals ensure the pathway to surgery is efficient, helping to maximise theatre utilisation whilst reducing cancellation rates and risk, and elevating the patient experience. The experience is elevated as patients are provided with greater control and convenience over their care pathway, as well as enjoying a smoother pathway to surgery.

Synopsis has been used to complete over 165,000 pre-operative assessments (POA), contributing to an average saving of £1.4 million per NHS Trust, per annum.
